Dresses for wedding guest attendees are very wide open as far as style, custom, and colors go. Any colors are allowed, from bold red to hot pink to elegant purple to classic black.

For casual weddings, your dress can be shorter and simpler in design. You probably won’t need that fancy hairstyle or manicure to go with it, either. Especially in the summer, casual could even mean dress pants and a blouse for many women, if they choose.

If the wedding is in the later evening, or more sophisticated, then your wedding guest dress should also be more elegant and longer. Fuller skirts, strapless or sleeveless dresses or lower necklines are generally found on more formal dresses for such occasions.

Since weddings can, and often do, involve children or teenagers attending, it would be a good idea to not show too much leg or cleavage. Dresses that are very form fitting or clingy may also be too suggestive. A long, flowing gown would be the perfect choice for a classy formal wedding.

Another thing to note is keeping your body type in mind as you shop online. If you’re worried about going over the top for a wedding dress when it isn’t your big day, a little black dress will always do the trick. And black will go with any wedding colors the bride may have chosen, so your dress won’t be clashing with the neon orange cake or frosted green tablecloths.
